New vehicles come with the manufacturer's new-vehicle limited warranty. Terms, mileage limits and powertrain coverage differ by brand and model year.

Manufacturer CPO programs add inspection standards and extended coverage to qualifying used vehicles. Each brand sets its own terms; the vehicle's listing notes whether it is certified.

- Is the vehicle still within its factory coverage by date and mileage?
- Is it certified by the manufacturer, and what does that program cover?
- What maintenance must be documented to keep coverage valid?
- What is excluded — wear items, modifications, commercial use?
- Is coverage transferable if you sell the car?
